TLDR Review: Samsung Odyssey G8 27" Gaming Monitor
Verdict
If you want a top-tier gaming and creative work monitor with jaw-dropping OLED picture quality, ultra-fast 240Hz refresh, and solid 4K resolution, the **SAMSUNG 27-inch Odyssey QD-OLED G8** is an excellent choice. Just beware of potential early quality control issues and limitations in multi-monitor setups if you’re running Nvidia RTX cards. This monitor is best for single or dual-screen gaming and professional use where visual fidelity and speed matter most. If you need a monitor for a triple-display Nvidia setup or want speakers built-in, you might want to explore other options.

Pros
- •The OLED display delivers stunning, vibrant colors with deep blacks and excellent HDR (DisplayHDR True Black 400) performance, creating an immersive visual experience.
- •4K resolution combined with a blazing fast 240Hz refresh rate and just 0.03ms response time provides ultra-smooth, blur-free motion, ideal for competitive gaming and high-quality video work.
- •Text and images appear crisp and clear, making this monitor excellent for professional creative tasks like RAW image editing and 4K video processing.
- •The ergonomic stand is sturdy and highly adjustable, ensuring comfortable viewing angles and ease of use.
- •It supports 120 Hz refresh rate on desktop setups reliably, delivering smooth frame rates without issues.
- •The anti-glare coating and matte screen finish allow good visibility even in bright environments without annoying reflections.
- •The monitor includes thoughtful features like self-maintenance cycles and an auto-off function to help protect the OLED panel.
- •User-friendly controls make picture adjustments straightforward, enhancing the out-of-the-box experience.
- •Provides a significant upgrade over standard 1080p 240Hz monitors, making it a tempting choice for gamers and creators alike.
- •Highly praised for enhancing the gaming experience with superior color quality far beyond typical LCD screens.
Cons
- •Some users have reported early failures or quality control issues, such as the monitor stopping functioning properly after a short time.
- •The color accuracy sometimes falls short of the advertised 99% DCI-P3 rating, with complaints about disappointing backlighting and calibration out of the box.
- •Navigation relies on a single joystick/button, which some find prone to wear or deterioration over time.
- •The matte finish screen might not satisfy users who prefer glossy displays with more pop and depth.
- •Lack of built-in speakers can be inconvenient for users who rely on their monitor for audio output.
- •Uses Display Stream Compression (DSC) for bandwidth management, and due to a firmware bug, it forces Nvidia RTX cards to count each DSC monitor as two outputs, limiting multi-monitor setups to two screens.
- •No option to disable DSC, unlike some competitors, making it less suitable for triple-monitor gaming rigs (e.g., racing or flight simulators) with Nvidia RTX graphics cards.
- •Long-term durability remains uncertain, as widespread user experiences with aging OLED technology are mixed.
